Veeam Cloud Connect is finally announced and on their list of upcoming version 8 features.
Personally I am extremely excited about this feature!
Here is the deal on Veeam Cloud Connect
Currently if you want to use a public cloud or perhaps a local service provider to store your offsite backup copy you need to go through various issues:
For instance as mentioned on the slide above, you need to actually setup a VPN connection.
Another thing is you might want to use WAN acceleration, good idea, however that will potentially cost you a bunch of extra money on CPU/storage by the cloud provider.
Veeam now launches Veeam Cloud Connect!
This is aimed for service provider to offer you a proper Veeam offsite backup repository.
The cloud provider will be paying per Veeam per VM stored – your deal with the service provider is not relevant to Veeam.
To start sending your backups offsite to the cloud start by finding a service provider and then adding a service provider:
Once you configured your Cloud Infrastructure in Veeam Backup & Replication your backups are ready to be sent offsite using SSL.
In case you need further security/privacy you can use end-to-end encryption:
Here is a better detailed diagram of the infrastructure needed for the service providers:
As mentioned at the beginning I am very excited about this – I have hoped & dreamed Veeam would launch something like this and now that it is finally here… WOW!
I am sure many service providers both here in Denmark and internationally will jump on this very soon!
Would you consider this for sending your backups offsite? Please post in the comments.
