VMware ESXi VM randomly inaccessible using QNAP NFS

2013-01-08 by Rasmus Haslund Leave a Comment

Today I had a customer who seemingly at random times lost connections to their QNAP NFS datastore. This only happend at night however.

This is what they saw in the vSphere client:
QNAP_NFS_VM_inaccessible

They could browse the datastore without issues and the VM worked fine if they removed it from inventory and re-added it again.

Since the host had other datastores and they did not have any issues, I started to look into the configuration of the QNAP network attached storage.

Under hardware I spotted that Enable hard disk standby mode if no access within the specific time period was enabled:
QNAP_NFS_NAS

I cleared the checkbox and we have not seen the issue again.

As always, if this helped you please leave a comment! 🙂
