EqualLogic Firmware Upgrade error: Insufficient free space to extract the kernel file

2012-10-03 by Rasmus Haslund 2 Comments

Today I encountered a, to me, previously unseen error while attempting to upgrade the firmware of a customers EqualLogic PS4000 SAN.

The error showed:
Insufficient free space to extract the kernel file; required: 24 MB, available: 22 MB
EqualLogic Firmware Upgrade Error

I connected using FTP to the dedicated management IP of the EqualLogic group and noticed a 9,97 MB file named MgmtExec.1.core.

After checking with Dell support I deleted the file and it was now possible to successfully complete the firmware upgrade.

Thanks, helped me when I got this issue. Would be good to get a Dell support link to reference, but I took a chance and it worked.
