Today I decided to give the VMware VCA exam a quick try on the datacenter virtualization track.

Fellow blogger Frank Brix Pedersen has also blogged on VMware VCA exam.
I did not prepare in any way, but remember there is free self-paced elearning available which I would recommend watching.
However I wanted to see the format of the exam and working as a VMware Certified Instructor I did not expect to have trouble passing.
The exam contains 50 questions and you will have 90 minutes to answer them. If you are not a native english speaker you will recieve 30 minutes extra.
Time was definitely not an issue even though I took extra time to carefully read each question and every answer option.
There were no suprise questions, no trick questions. I did however see lots of questions on naming of various VMware products and why would you want to buy this product.

Apparently Global Knowledge provides a code as well. Can be used until January 31st but limited to one exam : http://www.globalknowledge.com/training/generic.asp?pageid=3596
This certification could be better a couple of different ways. Allowing one to take a test online is useless, who is to say that it was actually you who took the test, I feel this devalues it a great deal.
Second I think you should be able to use the VCA as a prereq for the VCP rather than forcing a moneygrab class upon you (not even Microsoft does that). I view the VCA as an entry level exam, but make it more valuable please…there’s not one legitimate use for the VCA as the way it stands right now.

The voucher is valid till 30 oktober (not valid on 31 oktober according to some sources), but I have a holiday on the 31st. If I register for the exam on the 30 of oktober, could I do the exam on 31 oktober or on the first of november (the exam has 2 day expiration time) ?

Just wanted to comment that these are still working as of November 5th. I signed up for the trio of exams on the 1st of November, and one expired. I was able to re-register the next day using the same code.

Getting the same error as everyone else when trying to combine the 2 vouchers. Have we all missed this chance then? 🙁
