Last week I was onsite with a customer deploying Veeam Backup & Replication 6.5. One of their remote sites had just one VMware vSphere ESXi host running standalone. To simply their setup we decided to add it to the vCenter.
We then proceeded to deploy a proxy on a virtual server on the remote site and started a backup job.
Veeam stopped with the following error message:
Error: Client error: VDDK thread terminated.
After troubleshooting for a bit I realised from the main site (where we created the DNS record for the remote ESXi host) the DNS was obviously working fine.
However, the DNS record for the ESXi server has not yet been replicated to the virtual remote domain controller and it was therefore the remote proxy were unable to lookup the DNS name of the remote ESXi server.
Forcing a replication between the two domain controllers solved the problem.
If we had simply waited longer time, then I am sure the DNS would have replicated and the issue would have resolved it self.
As always, if this helped you please leave a comment!
